I've always been an active person, but after gaining over 15 pounds in college I obviously didn't know what the term "active" meant. During my undergraduate career I had ate and drank whatever I wanted, and had talked myself into thinking that since I was in a tough major it meant I couldn't go to the gym, let alone be in-shape. After college I weighed in at 123 lbs and had 23% body fat. Not good considering the fact that 26% body fat medically classifies you as "overweight". I felt awful about myself and knew that I had to take action. In May of 2009, I joined a gym. I started out with lots of cardio and some weight training. At this point though, I still didn’t understand the importance of diet. After hitting a plateau I decided to take my training to the next level and hired a personal trainer, James.
James is an awesome personal trainer. He made me push myself harder than I have ever pushed myself. He taught me how to lift weights correctly and the importance of a proper diet. I loved training with him because he kept me motivated and he made me reach my goal so much faster. After only two months with him I was down to 120 lbs and 16% bf, and had gained a lot of muscle. After seeing what I was capable of, I wanted to get better. I wanted to get leaner, and build even more lean muscle. So far I’ve only got a two-pack, but my goal is to make it a six-pack!
Working out and eating healthy has just become a part of my life. Some people might call my lifestyle "crazy". Yes I lift weights and do cardio, everyday. Yes I eat plain chicken and broccoli, a lot. But this is my life, and I feel good when I do these things, so I’m going to keep on doing them. For all of you who think you don’t have time, I ask you to re-evaluate your decision. I will tell you that you have to make time. To see results you can’t just go to the gym then stop by Taco Bell on your way home. You have to change your lifestyle, but even more important--You have to want to change your lifestyle. Don’t worry about what others are thinking when you mix up your protein in a shaker during class, or when you’re out to dinner and you just order a salad and grilled chicken breast. Who cares if your husband, girlfriend, parents, or friends think your nuts, after they see your success they just might change some things about their own lifestyle. The bottom line is if you want a six pack go for it, and don’t let anyone hold you down.
